Allegations: Laurie Jochumsen, acting as the executor of Lois Choltko’s estate, filed a case against Fi-The Abbey, LLC. During Ms. Choltko’s stay at the facility, she suffered from the development of a stage four bedsore on her tailbone. Due to the lack of proper wound care and infection control protocols, Ms. Choltko’s bedsore became infected with osteomyelitis, sepsis, and MRSA. Ms. Choltko unfortunately passed away as a result of her injury and infections.
Highfield, Roberta E. E/O vs. Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Lawsuit for Wrongful Death
Allegations: The personal representative of Roberta Highfield’s estate, William T. Highfield, filed a lawsuit against Fi-The Abbey, LLC. after the passing of his mother. While a resident of the nursing home, Ms. Highfield suffered from a severe urinary tract infection (UTI), significant weight loss, and multiple wounds. Ms. Highfield passed away after the facility failed to timely transport her to a hospital.
Deficiencies at Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for Resident Care Violations
August 16th, 2022, Inspection at Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
A complaint inspection occurred at the facility in August 2022 to investigate the facility’s wound care procedures. Following interviews and medical records review, investigators determined that the staff at Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center failed to follow physician-ordered treatment for Resident #1. Due to the lack of appropriate care, Resident #1’s infected surgical wound deteriorated.
September 3rd, 2021, Inspection at Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
This inspection at Abbey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center found that staff failed to provide appropriate tracheostomy care, including suctioning the tracheostomy, for a resident. Resident #321 had to be transported to the hospital from the facility in respiratory distress.
