Brenda Jordan, a former resident, is suing Brookdale Atrium Way for the pressure sores she developed at the facility, the infections that developed because of uncleanliness, and malnutrition.
Ms. Jordan was admitted to Brookdale Atrium Way, a 24 hour skilled nursing facility, because she needed significant medical help. She suffered from chair immobility and bed immobility, but did not have any pressure ulcers upon arrival to Brookdale Atrium Way.
Because she was immobile, the staff at Brookdale Atrium Way should have repositioned her frequently to avoid pressure sores. Unfortunately, the staff neglected to reposition Ms. Jordan as required, and she developed multiple large bed sores. To make matters worse, these bedsores became infected because Ms. Jordan was left to sit in her own waste. Additionally, Ms. Jordan suffered from shingles and malnutrition.
Brenda Jordan was removed from the facility by her daughter upon learning of the horrible treatment provided by Brookdale Atrium Way. Sadly, Ms. Jordan is still suffering from facility acquired injuries to this day.
What to Do if Your Loved One is Being Neglected at a Brookdale Facility
Sometimes, it can be very difficult to determine whether or not your loved one is being abused or neglected at a nursing home. In fact, in the complaint, it is alleged that Ms. Jordan’s daughter did not learn about the pressure sores for months, even though the staff knew of the injuries. Therefore, it is important to be vigilant and look for signs of abuse or neglect.
