A Brooklyn man has filed a lawsuit against Sunrise at Sheepshead Bay for allowing his parents to die in the facility with COVID.
In a separate case, a Federal Judge has ordered a nursing home company to pay $3 million to settle trafficking allegations involving importing Filipino nurses. This included Brooklyn’s Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center nursing home.
A Bedford-Stuyvesant family sued Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn after their loved one developed a pressure ulcer on their heel. The plaintiff alleged that in a matter of weeks, the deep stage 4 bed sores became so serious that she developed sepsis and gangrene. The patient was a long time resident of Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Rockaway Parkway.
In 2022, a multi-million dollar deal was pending for the purchase of SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Bay Ridge. If the deal closes, the Brooklyn medical facility will sell for $160 million. The buyer, Allure Group, is involved in New York’s healthcare industry, specifically operating nursing homes out of Brooklyn.
