By the following Wednesday, he was “unrecognizable” and the reviewer immediately started the process to have him discharged. The next day, the facility called her to inform her that her father had passed away; he had been force fed solid food, left unattended, and choked on his food.
Other reviewers of Tamarac Rehabilitation & Health Center noted that “the hallways are always crowded with patients [in] wheelchairs yelling and screaming,” and that her brother, a diabetic, was fed the same diet as the other residents. Another family member of a diabetic resident noted that her father’s health plummeted during his stay at this Tamarac nursing home. Numerous requests to provide meals appropriate for diabetics were ignored and staff informed her that her father’s high blood sugar was due to being in a new environment. The reviewer eventually transferred her father to another facility. Despite the negative yelp reviews, Tamarac Rehab enjoys a 4 out of 5 star rating on Medicare’s nursing home compare.
Heartland of Tamarac, another nursing home located in Tamarac, has been criticized by resident families for deplorable conditions. This facility is now called Nspire Healthcare Tamarac. Multiple family members of residents recalled that call lights were rarely answered and the staff are often on their phones or talking and joking amongst themselves and do not help residents. One reviewer observed that during dialysis, patients were left alone in the hallway while the staff spoke amongst themselves in another language, and ignored a patient who was “screaming that they are cold.” Her own mother was seated in a wheelchair for four hours, causing her feet to become swollen.
