Bethesda Hospital East is a 401 bed acute care hospital located at 2815 S. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL 33435. Many former patients have sued Bethesda for hospital negligence in medical malpractice lawsuits. Recently, the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) conducted a random unannounced survey of the hospital, due to patient complaints. Besthesda Hospital Nurses Failed to Plan, Intervene and Evaluate Patient Care Plans (H0120)
Bethesda nurses were cited for failing to follow Florida Administrative Code 59A-3.2085(5)(e)1-3. Specifically, Bethesda violated this rule by its nurses failing to ensure that a patient was able to self-catheterize. As a result, the patient was not safely catheterized.
Bethesda Hospital’s Failure to File Audited Financial Statements
In 2017, AHCA again cited Bethesda Hospital for failing to file audited financial statements in accordance with Rule 59E of the Florida Administrative Code. This resulted in a $2,886 fine from the State of Florida.
Bethesda Hospital’s Failure to Provide Emergency Room Care Services Properly and Safely
Bethesda’s emergency room department was cited in 2016 for failing to appropriately provide emergency room care. An anonymous patient came into the Bethesda Hospital emergency department with a gunshot wound to the face. The hospital holds itself out to the public as a facility with a dedicated emergency department, including specialties like an oral/maxillo facial surgeon. It is Bethesda’s official policy to have specialists on call, if needed by patients.
At the request of the E.R. physician, the on-call physician from the appropriate specialty must come in to evaluate and stabilize the patient’s condition.
The anonymous patient required the consultation of the oral/maxillo facial surgeon, due to severe facial trauma from the gunshot wound. Bethesda’s ER physician contacted the specialist. Instead of going to see the patient, the specialist sent the patient to a different hospital, further delaying his treatment.
The hospital was also cited for failing to follow transfer protocol.
2019 Update
This post was updated on March 25, 2019. Subsequent inspections at Bethesda East have resulted in deficiencies and citations on 5/16/17, 1/17/18, 4/16/18, 8/30/18 and 12/11/18. Additionally, Bethesda Hospital East is now part of the Baptist Health South Florida hospital network.
