The Licensee of the facility is called Sovereign Healthcare of Medicana LLC and the management company is Southern Healthcare Management LLC. These entities are ultimately owned and controlled by Sovereign Healthcare, which owns many facilities across the country. - failing to implement appropriate fall precautions;
- failing to prevent Mr. Daniels from suffering falls and unexplained injuries;
- failing to provide adequate nutrition and hydration;
- failing to maintain adequate records;
- failing to prevent aspirational pneumonia;
- failing to provide adequate staff;
The Complaint alleges that these failures were a direct cause of Mr. Daniels’s untimely death.
E/O Geraldine Baird v. Sovereign Healthcare of Medicana, LLC d/b/a Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center
The second most recent lawsuit against Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center was filed on August 25, 2016. According to the Complaint, the Facility violated the resident rights of Ms. Baird, including the right to be free from mental and physical abuse. The Complaint alleges the Facility violated Section 400.022 of the Florida Statutes by not “providing adequate staff with sufficient training to implement [resident’s rights required under Section 400].” According to the Complaint, this lack of appropriate staffing led to “loss of dignity; bodily injury; pain and suffering; mental anguish; discomfort; aggravation of an existing disear or physical defect [and] medical, hospital and nursing expenses”. Sadly, it is alleged that the negligence on behalf of Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center caused the death of Ms. Baird.
E/O Odette Audate v. Sovereign Healthcare of Medicana, LLC d/b/a Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center
Another Medicana Nursing and Rehab Center lawsuit was filed on January 19, 2016. In this case, the estate of Ms. Audate argued that poor care provided at Medicana led to her death. This case settled out of court prior to trial.
