Allegations: Rita Hooper’s son, Ray Hooper, filed a nursing home negligence lawsuit against Regents Park of Winter Park after his mother’s untimely passing. Ms. Hooper was wheelchair bound and required assistance transferring from her wheelchair to the bed, toilet, etc. On the date of the incident, staff at the facility transferred Ms. Hooper from her wheelchair to the shower chair. Staff forced Ms. Hooper’s left foot into and underneath the shower chair and made her sit down. This resulted in all of her left foot toenails being ripped out, and the skin on the top of her foot being ripped off. Ms. Hooper was hospitalized for her injury and then passed away in hospice care about a month later.
Norris, Joanne vs. Regents Park of Winter Park Lawsuit
Allegations: Joanne Norris filed a nursing home negligence lawsuit against Regents Park of Winter Park following her stay there. According to the case’s complaint, Ms. Norris was being transported to her room from the occupational therapy room by the occupational therapist. Ms. Norris’ right leg became bent underneath the wheelchair during the transport. The therapist failed to notice that her leg had become caught underneath the wheelchair. Based on record review and interviews, it was determined that staff at Regents Park of Winter Park failed to prevent one resident from suffering multiple falls with injury. Additionally, the resident, who suffers from cognitive impairments, was able to exit the facility without being rerouted by staff. The resident was not injured during the elopement and was brought back into the building by staff.
