Recently, a Brookdale Freedom Pointe nurse was criminally charged after a resident suffered a fatal fall. Gayle Gall, LPN was arrested after she allegedly ignored a resident following a fall at Brookdale’s Freedom Pointe ALF in the Villages.
The 71 year old Brookdale employee was taken into custody and charged with neglect of an elderly or disabled adult. It is unclear how the nurse will plead to the criminal elder neglect charges at this time. Unfortunately, the elderly fall victim has passed away.
Uncovering the Neglect at Freedom Pointe
Apparently, detectives visited the facility after an emergency call was made following a patient fall. Detectives discovered that the alleged negligent nurse did not timely render medical care and did not chart the patient’s fall. This is a flagrant violation from the standard of care.
“It was confirmed through interviews with staff that the patient became unresponsive after her falling incident, and Gayle Gall directed staff to place the patient to bed, with no medical care rendered after the falling incident. A physician was not notified following the patient’s fall nor was the patient’s family notified of the fall incident” — Sumter County Sheriff’s Office
