Federal Government Agency Determines Worst Rated FL Nursing Homes through SFF Program
The federal government agency, CMS, issues a Special Focus Facility Program which highlights some of the worst rated nursing homes in the United States. The SFF program “offers a list of nursing homes that have a history of serious quality issues or are included in a special program to stimulate improvements in their quality of care.”
CMS has spent millions of taxpayer dollars studying recurring problems in nursing homes and long term care facilities. Here is what they have found. Most nursing homes have a few deficiencies, however, a small minority of nursing homes average twice (or more) the problems found in their counterparts. CMS also considers the length of time the facility has had problems, and if those problems demonstrate a pattern of more serious problematic concern regarding the facility’s nursing home care.
When CMS finds a facility that has recurring problems, they include that facility on the Special Focus Facility Program list.
