What is the Best Nursing Home in Atlanta?
Finding the best nursing home in Atlanta is a personal, family decision. However, CMS and Georgia state inspectors can help families highlight the highest rated, best performing skilled nursing facilities in the Atlanta metro area.
As of the time of this post, there are five nursing facilities located in and around Atlanta, Georgia that have been rated as 5-star facilities by Medicare. A 5-star rating is considered to be “Much Above Average” by Medicare, with a 1-star rating seen as “Much Below Average.” These ratings are based on three factors:
- how well a nursing home does on health inspections,
- whether a facility is well staffed or understaffed, and
- how well a nursing home provides adequate and quality care to residents.
We also factor in the frequency in which our law firm has sued the facility for nursing home negligence, abuse, or resident neglect.

The Takeaway
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the perfect nursing home. The above are highly rated Atlanta nursing homes, but that does not mean that these homes are incapable of neglecting or harming residents.
Further, facilities change management and ownership frequently. What was a phenomenal facility last year can take a sharp turn after a change in management. Unfortunately, it can take state regulators years to ‘catch up’ to the bad care, meaning a terrible facility can masquerade as a 5 star facility due to the good work of a prior owner.
Your best bet is to tour highly regarded facilities and see what feels right to you. Visit often, and at unexpected times. Be on the lookout for ‘red flag injuries’ which are correlated with nursing home abuse, like bedsores, falls, and weight loss.
